Temple Education Foundation Hires New Executive Director

The Temple Education Foundation is excited to announce our second Executive Director, Chris McGilvery.

Chris was selected by the TEF Executive Committee, and then approved by the full board in early June.  He began work on Monday, June 20.

"The Temple Education Foundation Board of Directors hired Chris McGilvery as our new executive director because of his enthusiasm, technical and organizational skills, and his passion for the mission of our organization.  The Board looks forward to working with Chris as we raise needed funds for our teacher grants and student scholarships," said TEF Board Chairperson Dan Posey.

Chris brings more than five years of experience in nonprofit organizations to TEF.  Previously, Chris founded the nonprofit organization Give More HUGS, works to ensure children in Central and West Texas, Greater New York area, and  the country of Dominica receive a quality education and “develop a lifelong love for learning, reading and creativity”.

"I am excited to serve as the Executive Director to help expand [Temple Education Foundation’s] growth and community involvement. It is truly amazing to see how much impact TEF has done to help maximize student learning and success, and I hope to inspire the community to take an active part in helping transform students’ lives through the foundation's charitable programs," Chris said.

Chris has hit the ground running, and along with strengthening the TEF programs already in place, he's excited to bring fresh ideas about how to continue helping the students of Temple.

“The Temple Education Foundation has grown tremendously over the past 3 years. The TEF board felt the need to seek an executive director to help guide and grow the foundation,” said 2015-2016 TEF Chairperson Kristi Burke.  “Chris was an excellent choice to fill the role due to his experience with the nonprofit sector and his contagious personality.  He will increase the scope of work and impact of the Temple Education Foundation on the district and the community. We are excited about the days ahead as he transitions into this new role.”

The TEF also wants to recognize and extend a huge “Thank You” to Jean Coley, who served as the organization’s first executive director on a volunteer basis in 2015-2016.  Jean set the foundation for the position and through her efforts oversaw many successes, including the incredibly moving Distinguished Alumni event honoring 1965 Dunbar High School graduate Joe Greene.
