Communities in Schools

Communities In Schools (CIS) is a community-based organization helping kids succeed in school and prepare for life. It’s nonprofit, nonpartisan, and dedicated to ending the dropout epidemic in the United States.
 
The Communities in Schools program serves six campuses in Temple ISD:

  • Hector P Garcia Elementary

  • Bonham Middle School

  • Lamar Middle School

  • Travis Science Academy

  • Wheatley Alternative Education Center

  • Temple High School

Essential Services

CIS provides essential services that allow teachers to focus on teaching and students to focus on learning by addressing the following issues:

Academics:
Provide immediate support for students
Initial parental involvement
Directly monitor academics until progress is evident

Attendance:

  • Work with students, parents and judicial system
  • Research the cause of the problem
  • Address issues/counseling
  • Directly monitor attendance until issue is resolved
Behavior:
  1. Work with disorderly students
  2. Research cause of behavior
  3. Address issues/ counseling
  4. Get students back in class and ready to learn
