Marker #2 - Coach Bob McQueen

Temple ISD Historic Marker #2 was dedicated on 9/4/15 at the Wildcat Athletics Fieldhouse at Temple High School.

 

This plaque is available for viewing anytime on the fieldhouse wall facing Wildcat Stadium, with entrance through Wildcat Stadium (except during an event) located at 415 N. 31st Street in Temple.

"Bob McQueen graduated from Temple High School in 1956 after earning letters in football, basketball, baseball and track. McQueen returned to Temple in 1972 as the Head Football Coach.
 
In 28 years at Temple, McQueen compiled an impressive 243-77-7 record. His Wildcats had 24 winning seasons, won 14 district titles, qualified for the playoffs 18 times and advanced to the State championship three times. The Wildcats won the State championship in 1979 and 1992. During his coaching career, McQueen received a multitude of honors both at the state and national levels, including national coach of the year runner-up in 1979-80.
 
He is a member of both the Texas High School Coaches Hall of Honor and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Character and hard work exemplify Coach McQueen's legacy."
