Life

I was born in Boston on January 17, 1706 into a puritan household. My father was Josiah who was a skilled candle maker and mechanic. My mom was Abiah Folger who was born on the island of Nantucket and was the second wife of my father. I have 17 siblings. I was the 15th of Josiah's children and 8th of Abiah's children. I married Deborah Rogers and had two children. In 1723, I ran away to Philadelphia, and in 1726, I owned my own newspaper called the Pennsylvania Gazette. I began printing Poor Richard's Almanack in 1732 which made me very wealthy. I became an inventor in 1740 when I invented the Pennsylvania Stove also known as the Franklin Stove. I was a politician and provincial agent before the revolution. I was a defender of American Rights during the revolution. I was a diplomat for the Continental Congress to get help from France to help us in the war. When the war was over and I had signed the Peace Treaty of Paris, I went back home in 1785.
