My Presidency
I was the third President of the United States of America.
As president I commissioned the Lewis and Clark expedition, launched in 1803, to map the vast, unknown territory northwest of St. Louis; and negotiated and persuaded Congress to fund the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, greatly increasing the size of the U.S. I also protected crucial trade interests of my young nation by making war with the Barbary States,1801-05.
