Computer Networks

A Network is any group of computers that are connected together. Networks allow computers to talk to other computers. Networks help individuals share information and resources. Thanks to networks, people can share data in a faster and more efficient way. In the past, people had to share information through the postal service or by hand carrying it from one computer to another. Now, computer networks facilitate this process to the point that data can travel to the other side of the world with just the touch of a keystroke.

There are both big and small networks. An example of a small network might be a small business that shares a printer within an office while a large corporate network might connect offices located in different cities around the world. The Internet consists of multiple networks. One of the networks within the Internet is the World Wide Web. The Temple Independent School District's network connects all of its campuses, administrative offices and support services so that students and staff may share information and a variety of resources.
