TISD Network Applications

Applications are computer programs that are used to extend the function of your computer's operating system. Most TISD computers use the Windows XP operating system and have the following district supported applications installed on them. These applications are sometimes referred to as the TISD network software set because they have been established as a district standard.

Grade Speed and eClass - Most of our TISD campuses will be utilizing an online grading program called Grade Speed beginning this year. This will be a change from the eClass and Chancery SMS applications used previously. Online grade books and attendance are maintained by all classroom teachers. Training will be made available through the Department of Instructional Technology and Campus Technology Liaisons.

Microsoft Internet Explorer - This web browser can be used to access the World Wide web and other resources available on the Internet. It has been installed on all networked TISD computers along with a variety of plugins that extend it's usability.

Microsoft Word - This word processing application can be used in the classroom to make printable worksheets, permission slips and tests etc. Additional options include designing curriculum web pages or sites. Curriculum web pages are useful when taking students to the computer lab. They can be made easily by simply inserting hyperlinks into a document and saving the document as a web page. This program is one of the Microsoft Office XP applications. Microsoft Powerpoint - This multimedia program really appeals to students because of the way it mixes images, information and sounds with energetic transitions and animations. It creates slideshows and presentations that are useful for introducing, reviewing, and presenting lessons. It can also be used to create web pages. This program is one of the Microsoft Office XP applications. Microsoft Excel - This data management program allows you to create spreadsheets with charts and graphs. It can be highly useful for managing information or teaching statistical concepts in math or science. This program is one of the Microsoft Office XP applications. Microsoft Access - This database program to manage records. It integrates nicely with Excel to manipulate data and information. This program is one of the Microsoft Office XP applications. Microsoft Publisher - This desktop publishing program can be used to design flyers, invitations, and web sites. It contains well-defined corlor schemes and templates for the artistically challenged. Microsoft Outlook - This professional Email program is a great way to communicate with colleagues. A calendar, and contact list are included to help you organize your appointments, meetings and address book. Microsoft Outlook Web Access is the web based version of this program and allows employees the opportunity to check their district Email from the Internet. You can find a link for this purpose on the home page of the TISD web site at http://www.tisd.org.

FilemakerPro - This cross platform database program that is very useful for data management and is used across the district for the purpose of storing records. The TISD Technology Department has purchased extended software licensing in order to make it available to TISD employees for their use at home as well as work.
