Medications
Students frequently need to take prescription medications for the treatment
of medical conditions. Whenever possible,
we ask that the administration of required doses be scheduled so that
the child can take medicines at home. MEDICATION WILL NOT BE
ADMINISTERED BY ANY SCHOOL EMPLOYEE WITHOUT A WRITTEN ORDER FROM A PHYSICIAN
AND A WRITTEN PERMISSION SLIP FROM THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN.
Medication
that has to be administered during a school day, must be brought to
school in the proper prescription labeled container. No medication
that has an outdated expiration date will be given at school and only
the nurse or other authorized school employees are permitted to administer
prescription medicines. Herbal
medications will not be given in school. Other than prescription asthma
medicine, we do not permit students to carry their own medications and
self-administer.
Children with asthma will be allowed to carry and self-administer their
prescription asthma medicine if a written authorization
for self-administration and a written statement from the child’s
doctor explaining that the student has asthma and is capable of self-administration
has been provided. The written statement must include the
name and purpose of the medicine, the prescribed dosage, the times and
circumstances for administration, and the period for which the medicine
is prescribed.
If your child has unique medical conditions or any other condition, such
as a food allergy, that requires virtually immediate administration of
medications under specified conditions, please contact the campus principal
or nurse, who will schedule a meeting of appropriate personnel to ensure
that your child’s needs are met.
