GIFTED AND TALENTED - TEACHER TRAINING REQUIREMENTS- ONE

What training do teachers need if they teach gifted and talented students?

Teachers must have thirty basic hours of gifted and talented training. This training is available within the
district or through Region XII. If you come from another district, this training can be transferred to the
Temple Independent School District (TISD). Please notify the G/T Director about training you have on
arrival. This information will be put into our data records for referral at any time. If you choose to manage
your own training records, you must, without any delay, be able to show your training to your principal
or to any other person authorized to review G/T training. This is a compliance issue.

Teachers must also have six additional hours annually. We provide this training through ongoing in-service
related to the academic content taught. This training can also be earned any place where the training is
identified as continuing G/T training. TISD also offers training in technology for continuing G/T training.
Many teachers earn additional hours through attendance at the annual Texas Association for the Gifted
and Talented (TAGT) conference in early December.
