GIFTED AND TALENTED - TRAINING FOR OTHER PROFESSIONALS - FOUR

What training do teachers in the fine arts and athletic areas need?

Teachers in the fine arts and athletics areas have been meeting the needs of their gifted students for many years.
The needs of students in the academic areas have not historically been addressed as effectively. Thus, the
requirements for gifted and talented training are necessary for the teachers in the four core academic areas.
However, if you supervise students who are participating in an Advanced Placement program in the fine arts,
you will be required to attend the related training that the AP training center offers.

You should also keep a record of any advanced content training that you earn through attendance at your
specific conventions and conferences. It is not necessary for you to submit training records to the G/T Director,
unless you are working with the AP program.

What training do administrators need?

Administrators must have six hours of training on the nature and needs of the gifted. Administrators in TISD
also participate in teacher training in the core content areas to learn about the differentiation in the curriculum.
Although not required, Temple Independent School District administrators are urged to continue to learn
about serving the gifted.
