Students with few prior learning experiences need
hands-on and visual approaches to learning science and math. By "frontloading"
knowledge before it is formally introduced, students can come to a lesson
with more understanding and applicable queries for future learning.
Hands on models for science and math allow students to have a visual
representation which they will be able to recall in the future.

Williams
Service learning is a tool to advance and deepen
the students' capacity for critical thinking, problem solving and
acceptance of personal responsibility. Besides building a work ethic,
it also teaches the participants vocational skills which will be of
use for future employment. Wheatley features a service learning component
which requires all students to assume full responsibility for the
custodial maintenance and landscaping duties of the campus. Students
engage projects daily. This project will expand the program to provide
Saturday service to the City of Temple twice a month.

Technology that includes the use of the computer
along with input devices like the digital camera and scanner are
excellent teaching tools. Lessons which focus on multiple ways to
communicate using technology will promote the teaching of Technology
TEKS along with those in the area of English Language Arts and Reading.
Students participants will use the Internet for research and tools

Science is hands on and requires models for students
to use and experiment with so that they can experience the relationships,
outcomes, systems and cycles that make up the Science curriculum. The
use of manipulative models helps students to discover processes and
concepts that will increase their knowledge of the TEKS allowing them
to be better prepared to pass the TAKS Science test.

Frog Family Math Fun Packs are game kits for 3rd.
4th. and 5th. graders that review twenty-five Math skills on a rotating

between parents and students. Research has shown that parent participation
in their child's education will result in increased learning and positive
attitudes. The games support the Campus Plan through the targeting of
