Joe Palmer has lived all but 4 years of his life in Central Texas. Born in Gatesville, the fourth of five boys, he graduated from Gatesville High School and then attended Baylor University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education with Earth Science, English and Math areas of study. He taught math and science at Midway ISD for 12 years while coaching football and serving as head track coach for the Panthers. He earned a Masters of Education & Administration during this time. He changed professions and served as an Associate Pastor of Education and Administration at two churches for 10 years while starting two private schools during that time. He returned to education as an administrator of Central Texas Christian School then in 1995 went to Salado ISD as assistant principal of the high school. When Salado Intermediate opened, he served as principal for 10 years. Joe has been the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources at Temple since 2008. Mr. Palmer married his wife, Colleen, in 1969 and has 3 adult children and six grandchildren. "Temple offers a unique set of opportunities much like schools in more urban areas with its diversity. Irregardless, the challenges are more rewarding than the accolades from my other districts. Our students are unique and anxious to love and be loved from those in PK to those at THS. Working hard to give them the best is very gratifying since the overwhelming majority of the kids greatly appreciate your efforts. The only regret I have about my current job in Temple is that I wish I had gotten here sooner."
