Temple High School Air Force ROTC Receives Major Award

6/2/17

We are pleased to announce that TX-959, Temple High School’s Air Force JROTC unit, has earned the Distinguished Unit Award for the 2016-17 school year.

This is the second highest award a unit can receive.  (The highest one can be earned only in the year of an Air Force inspection.)

Aside from some Air Force programmatic requirements that must be met to be eligible, the main criterion for earning this award is to complete an average of 12 community and school service hours per cadet.  For Temple, that is over 3,300 hours!

Something that makes this number even more impressive is the fact that many Temple cadets are involved in athletics, band or other fine arts, or have an afterschool job, and cannot participate in many of the service activities.  So, Temple has a lot of cadets who are very generous with their time and energies.

While the cadets’ efforts are the most important factor in earning this award, it’s important to also recognize that Temple’s JROTC could not be as involved or as successful as it is without the support received from the teachers and administrators at Temple High School.

The Distinguished Unit Award is awarded by the Director of the Air Force Junior ROTC, headquartered at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL.
