Temple ISD Board Meeting Wrap Up, 4/10/17

The Temple ISD Board of Trustees held their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, 4/10/17.
 
They recognized Oncor for always making sure when the power goes out on a Temple ISD campus, they get the electricity back on as soon as possible!
 
In a transformative move for both Temple ISD and the City of Temple, the board voted to accept $10 million from the Tax Increment Financing Reinvestment Zone #1 to fund a new Temple ISD Training Center and Administrative Offices.
 
This facility will be located in the new Santa Fe Plaza, near the Santa Fe Depot in Downtown Temple.
 
 
Local business partners are the backbone of Temple ISD's state leading, highly successful Career & Technical Education program. Tonight, CTE Director Denise Ayres, Dr. Battershell and the board recognized business partners Woodward Creative Group, iZone Imaging, TMS Hydraulics, Inc., and City of Temple Municipal Court and Judge Kathleen Person with Texas Association of School Boards Stand Up for Texas Public Schools recognition. We can't express enough how much we appreciate these business partners!
 
Director of Fine Arts Catrina Lotspeich gave a presentation on the state of Temple ISD's award winning, nationally recognized Fine Arts Program.  Watch the two videos and take a look at her presentation:

Wheatley AEC Principal Carl Pleasant spoke to the board about the character building programs in place on the campus, and the impact they're having on students there.
 
6th grade student Kennadi Manning shared with the board her story of success from the programs in place at Wheatley.  
 
Senior Charles Collins also shared with the board how Wheatley has positively impacted him.  His boss at Whataburger gave him an hour off to come talk with the board!

Temple alternative education cuts recidivism in half, officials say

Temple schools reduced repeat assignments to the Wheatley Alternative Education Center by 50 percent since 2014, according to a presentation made at a Temple Independent School District board meeting.

Director of Special Programs Dr. Karen Morgan and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Bobby Ott presented the turnaround plan for Raye-Allen Elementary School.  They also discussed a number of successes that have already taken place on that campus.  Take a look at the plan HERE
 
Temple ISD Band Director Bob Medina brought a student to show off the new look of the Temple High School Band for the next 7 - 10 years.  The board approved the purchase of new band uniforms.
