New Thornton Elementary Ribbon Cutting and Public Tour is Thursday

10/10/17

We’re really excited about the newest school in Temple, Thornton Elementary School, and we want to make sure everyone has a chance to see it.

On Thursday, October 12, beginning at 4 p.m., Temple ISD will hold a ribbon cutting and public tour at the campus located at 2825 Cottonwood Lane.

The short ceremony will include a performance of the school song by the Thornton Thunderbird choir, and a ribbon cutting with the Temple Chamber of Commerce.

Then the new building will be open to the public to explore, with students and teachers serving as guides.

This 86,000 square foot, state of the art campus serves over 760 students, and features an environmentally friendly theme.

The EcoGarden includes a working wind turbine and solar panel along with a rainwater collection system.  The building uses geothermal energy for cooling and heating, which means there are no traditional air conditioners or heaters.  Plus, with augmented reality teachers and students can monitor all A/C, heat, water and electrical use in real time, and even see where the electricity is coming from.

We’re excited to provide this state of the art campus; the students of Temple deserve nothing less. We hope you’ll stop by to see it for yourself.
