Temple ISD Approves Wallin as Executive Director of Communications

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Independent School District Board of Trustees approved Jon Wallin as the district’s new Executive Director of Communications at the board’s monthly meeting Monday night (September 9).

Wallin joined Temple ISD in August of 2021 and spent the last three years as Public Information Officer for the district. In his new role, Wallin will continue to oversee all the district’s communications efforts, including communication with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders, media relations, marketing, open records requests, maintaining the district website and supervising TISD’s social media presence.

“Temple ISD is known as a statewide leader in communications, and we were able to take it to another level when Jon was initially hired here in 2021. Jon has over 25 years of local, extensive, and unquestionable experience in communications,” said Dr. Bobby Ott, superintendent of schools for Temple ISD. “His local reputation, work in the district and regional media connections will continue the standard he has already helped set here in the district. The staff was elated when they learned he would be recommended for this position and his leadership will help us reach even further in our efforts to lead in knowledgeable, decisive, and timely communications.”

“The board is very pleased to approve Jon Wallin for the position of Executive Director of Communications,” said Dan Posey, president of the Temple ISD Board of Trustees. “With Jon’s three years of experience in the department, he was the best qualified person to lead the district’s communications efforts. We look forward to the continuation of our high standards of consistent and transparent communication with our students, families, staff, and community.”

Wallin is a 1991 graduate of Baylor University with a degree in telecommunications. Prior to joining Temple ISD, Wallin spent 22 years as the Sports Information Director at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He started his career working in a variety of roles in local television. Wallin and his wife, Brenda, have two adult children, Jacob, and Brooke.

“I am so grateful to the board of trustees, Dr. Ott, and the senior leadership team for having the confidence and trust in me to take on this role,” Wallin said. “Remarkable things are happening in Temple ISD, and I am honored and humbled with the responsibility to continue to share TISD’s message with all of our families, staff members, community partners, and other stakeholders.”
