Temple ISD Receives National Recognition for Music Education Support

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Independent School District has been honored with the Best Communities in Music Education designation by The NAMM Foundation for their outstanding support and commitment to music education. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

Two awards are given each year: Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) for school districts and the SupportMusic Merit Award (SMMA) for individual school sites. Both reach K-12 schools and districts throughout the U.S. and offer opportunities to increase awareness and support for music programs. Over 1,000 districts and individual school sites (public, private, charter, parochial) were recognized for having the highest commitment to producing exceptional music programs.

“We are truly grateful that Temple ISD is aware and supportive of the powerful role that music and arts education play in enriching students’ learning experiences,” said Shirley Bouquin, Fine Arts Coordinator for Temple ISD. “This award is a testament to the dedication of our teachers and students, and we are proud to share this recognition with the community and district whose continued support keeps our programs thriving.”

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Temple ISD Fine Arts Department answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by the leading arts educational research firm, WolfBrown.

Temple ISD offers comprehensive music programs for students in grades K-12, including General Music, Choir, Band, and Orchestra. Throughout the year, students in these programs participate in a variety of events and performances, earning recognition at both the state and national levels. These opportunities include UIL Evaluations, All-Region and All-State Ensembles and Contests, Solo & Ensemble performances, and involvement with community music organizations.
