TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Independent School District has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for the sixth consecutive year.
An annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024 was submitted by Temple ISD’s Finance Department and subsequently reviewed by an impartial panel representing the twenty-one-thousand-member association. Entries are examined for a “spirit of full disclosure” and are held to the high standards of the association as determined by a 45-page checklist of requirements. Temple ISD’s report was deemed by the association to clearly communicate the district’s financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. Receiving the Certificate of Achievement also demonstrates excellence in financial reporting and encourages and assists agencies to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting practices to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that promote transparency.
“We have become a model district in financial practices and as I am out engaging with our community, it is apparent that this is very important for our residents,” said Dr. Bobby Ott, superintendent of schools for Temple ISD. “As an ISD, we have an obligation to take care of our students, staff, families, and community at-large. TISD is committed to honest, transparent practices and financial integrity. I am proud of our finance department and this national-level recognition. We will continue to honor this commitment to the Temple community.”
According to the GFOA, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by the district and its management. In addition to the certificate of achievement, an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement will also be presented to the TISD Finance Department at the school board meeting next Tuesday (October 14). Temple ISD’s Finance Department has been recognized by state, national, and international groups for excellence in financial reporting for the past fiscal year.
“This recognition belongs to our entire finance team,” said Brandy Stanford, assistant superintendent of finance for Temple ISD. “Their diligence and commitment made this award possible, and it reflects our ongoing mission to ensure resources directly support teaching and learning in our classrooms.”
