TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple High School Theatre Arts program will open the 2025-2026 season with a three-day run of the classic musical “Grease” starting later this week.
“Grease” debuted in 1971 and features music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The familiar story is set in 1959 at the fictional Rydell High School and follows ten working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of peer pressure, politics, personal core values, and love. The musical has been revived multiple times and has been turned into a popular film and sequel and a live television production. The enduring work has long been a popular choice for school and community productions.
The score borrows heavily from the sounds of early rock and roll. The songs featured are well-known to fans of the musical and recall the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley.
“Grease is one of those timeless musicals that bring people together,” said Kayla Stewart, director of theatre arts for Temple High School. “It’s funny, heartfelt, and full of music that everyone knows and loves. Our students have poured their energy and creativity into making this production something truly special for our community. I am so proud of their dedication to Temple High School’s Theatre Department!”
The show will be performed on Thursday, October 9th, Saturday, October 11th, and Sunday, October 12th. Thursday’s performance is at 7:00 p.m. There will be 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. shows on Saturday and the run closes with a 2:00 p.m. performance on Sunday.
