TEMPLE, Texas — A Temple High School Air Force JROTC student has been recognized for his leadership and service.
Kenneth O’Bar is a junior at Temple High School and is a Cadet 2nd Lieutenant in the THS Air Force JROTC. O’Bar was recently awarded the Leadership Excellence Scholarship by American Legion Post 133 and the Temple Chamber of Commerce. The Scholarship is worth $1,500 and also comes with a certificate. Recipients of the scholarship are chosen for their dedication to personal development, academic achievement, and commitment to upholding the values of duty, honor, and patriotism. O’Bar also had to complete a 500-word essay on the topic of what leadership and service mean to him, and how he plans to use those qualities to positively impact his community and future career.
“The selection of Cadet O’Bar for this award is justified by his demonstrated leadership within our program in general and specifically for his command of the Cadet Corps Raider Team,” said Major Donald Speir, Temple HS Air Force JROTC Instructor. “He leads by example with a ‘follow me’ attitude galvanizing fellow cadets to strive for excellence. We are elated at Cader O’Bar’s achievement. He consistently sets the standard for all Cadets to emulate. We are very proud of Cadet O’Bar and expect continued excellence from him in the future.”
O’Bar was presented with the scholarship while leading his community service team in providing meals to military and civilian service members during the Temple Chamber of Commerce’s Military and First Responder Salute to Service on Tuesday (October 28). The presentation was made by John Potts, Commander of American Legion Post 133.
