Temple ISD's Windee Skrabanek Named Perry Weather Athletic Trainer of the Year

TEMPLE, Texas — Temple High School Head Athletic Trainer Windee Skrabanek has been honored as tops in the nation in her field after being named the 2026 Perry Weather Athletic Trainer of the Year on Wednesday (April 15). The award is part of Perry Weather’s AT Excellence Awards program.

Skrabanek is in her 22nd year of service as an athletic trainer in Temple ISD. She oversees a staff of two other full-time high school athletic trainers, with a full-time middle school athletic trainer set to join the staff this fall. Skrabanek also teaches and oversees an athletic training student program that has grown from less than ten students to nearly 30 students during her tenure. The Temple ISD Athletic Training staff is responsible for more than 1,500 athletes, participating in 33 sports on 96 total teams across the high school and middle school levels each year. The TISD Athletic Training department staffs more than 525 home games each year and also provides coverage at away games for varsity football and playoff qualifying teams in every sport. Temple High School has also been designated nationally as a Safe Sport School, recognizing secondary schools that take the crucial steps to keep their athletes free from injuries. Skrabanek also works to ensure that Temple High School student trainers and student-athletes are active in community service projects. Temple HS Athletic Training was one of three THS athletic department programs recently recognized by the Grant Teaff Foundation with a Grant Teaff Beyond the Game Team Award in recognition of the department’s community service initiatives. Skrabanek was selected from more than 6,400 nominations nation-wide as the winner of the 2026 Perry Weather Athletic Trainer of the Year.

“This is very rewarding for our program, I am able to do what I do because of the people around me,” Skrabanek said. “It is an honor for sure, I think it is great for our community, our kids, and definitely our school. This shows that we are doing the best for our kids day in and day out. This is just part of us helping grow kids and keep them accountable to be the best humans they can be. It is a rewarding experience and shows the impact we can make. I want to say thank you to everyone that has been involved with this award in any way.”

The Perry Weather AT Excellence Awards were started in 2023 to celebrate the ATs who go above and beyond for their athletes, schools, and communities. Representatives of Perry Weather were on hand to recognize Skrabanek on Wednesday, along with her family, athletic department personnel, Temple High School staff members, former athletic training students, and current student-athletes.

“Winning the 2026 Perry Weather Athletic Trainer Excellence Award from a field of more than 6,400 nominations is a remarkable and well-deserved honor for Coach Skrabanek,” said Steve Prentiss, Director of Athletics for Temple ISD. “This recognition speaks not only to her elite knowledge and skill, but to the daily impact she has on our student-athletes. Her commitment to care, prevention, and recovery, combined with genuine relationships and trust, sets her apart. We are incredibly proud to have Windee Skrabanek represent our program, our school, and our community at the highest level.”
