Temple ISD Middle School Student Recognized as Baylor TIP Scholar

TEMPLE, Texas — A Temple Independent School District middle school student has been recognized by Baylor University as part of the school’s Baylor Talent Identification Program (TIP).

Travis Science Academy seventh-grader Maren Garcia has been honored as a Baylor TIP Green Scholar. Seventh-grade students earn the distinction by taking a test similar to an SAT or ACT and earning scores that are typical of college-bound high school seniors. Being recognized as a Baylor TIP Scholar signifies that a student has exceptional academic potential and a commitment to developing their talents. Baylor TIP offers three levels of honors for these students – TIP Scholar, TIP Green Scholar, and TIP Gold Scholar.

“We are proud of Maren for achieving recognition as a Baylor TIP Green Scholar,” said Dr. Renota Rogers, chief academic officer for Temple schools. “This program offers enrichment learning opportunities for gifted students, and I am excited that Maren will be able to take advantage of those opportunities.”

Earning Baylor TIP Scholar designations grants the students access to advanced learning opportunities at Baylor University. Those programs are designed to nurture participant’s scholarly growth and include Baylor TIP Academy courses and Baylor TIP Lyceum courses. According to information shared by the program, Baylor TIP Scholars are also able to engage in college-level content, collaborate with like-minded peers from around the country, and receive mentorship aimed at transforming their potential into exceptional academic talent.

“Maren is exactly the kind of student who makes being an educator a privilege,” said Dr. Kasey Blomquist, principal of Travis Science Academy. “Her hard work, dedication, and servant leadership as Vice President of Student Government reflect the best of what it means to be a Mustang. I couldn’t be more proud of everything she has accomplished and the young woman she continues to become.”

Garcia becomes the third Temple ISD seventh grader to earn Baylor TIP recognition over the last two years. She will also be recognized at the TISD board meeting on Monday, May 11th.
