TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a set of goals that will help guide decision-making in the district for the next five years during a called meeting Wednesday evening (June 17).
The TISD trustees approved six goals during the meeting aimed at helping the district reach its vision to inspire every student to reach their maximum potential, fostering resilient learners who are prepared to succeed and positively impact society. Each goal addresses a different measure of district success and covers the time period from 2026-2030. The approved goals are:
1. Early Childhood Literacy
The percent of 3rd grade students that score “MEETS grade level” or above on STAAR Reading will increase 10% by June 2030.
2. Early Childhood Math
The percent of 3rd grade students that score “MEETS grade level” or above on STAAR Math will increase 13% by June 2030.
3. College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR)
The percentage of students that meet the criteria for CCMR will be maintained at or exceed 90% each year.
4. Innovative Learning Opportunities
TISD will provide rigorous standards of academic achievement to prepare 21st century learners for academic, career, and college readiness opportunities.
5. Safe and Healthy Environment
TISD will increase family and community partnerships that support a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, families, and the community.
6. School Community Engagement
TISD will develop and facilitate a professional culture that supports the attendance and participation of students, parents, and staff in school-related activities.
“These new goals are an important step in helping guide the direction of Temple ISD for the next five years,” said Dan Posey, president of the TISD board of trustees. “The previous district goals served us well from 2018 until 2026, and the newly approved goals will lead us to 2030. We are so grateful for the valuable input and feedback from our various stakeholders as they help us set direction for a school district that the entire Temple community can be proud of.”
Creation of the 2026-2030 district goals started in February of 2026 as trustees first discussed required goals per the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The board also discussed additional goals with the involvement of community stakeholder groups to provide feedback and input during the process. The board held a series of listening circles with various community groups that represented the Temple Area Co-Ed Ministerial Alliance (TACMA), the Temple Education Foundation (TEF), the TISD District Educational Improvement Committee (DEIC), business leaders, and a group of local healthcare professionals. Trustees also met with Temple High School students, Temple ISD alumni, district principals, and families from across the district. Board members also reviewed historical data for Early Childhood Reading, Early Childhood Math, and CCMR, to help set required goals based on those historical trends. The group also used data from the listening circles to compare that information to current goals. The board then revised those additional current goals to meet the needs of the district and community based on the feedback and input provided by the listening circle sessions.
“This has been a very involved and comprehensive process,” said Dr. Bobby Ott, Superintendent of Schools for Temple ISD. “Our board is an extension of the community – in values, decisions, priorities, and expectations. Their service is a responsibility they take seriously and is at the core of this process.”
Although the current goals are designed to guide the district from 2026-2030, the board will receive progress monitoring updates throughout the year and consider possible modifications.
