TEMPLE, Texas — Temple Independent School District’s Angela Solis has been named to the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) District SPED Leadership Council. In this role, Solis will join with a statewide group of district special education leaders to provide early advisory input on special education initiatives, policies, and program design.
Solis, who serves as Temple ISD’s Executive Director of Special Education, was appointed by the TEA to serve on the council, joining approximately 20 other special education leaders from across the state on the panel. The District SPED Leadership Council serves as the TEA’s early advisory body on special education matters. Members of the committee are tasked with offering early insight into emerging priorities and policy developments, helping shape program design before initiatives reach the field, and contributing to statewide special education efforts through direct engagement with TEA leadership. The Leadership Council also provides feedback, shares insight from the field, and helps inform statewide special education initiatives that support students, families, educators, and school systems across Texas.

I look forward to contributing to work that strengthens systems, supports educators and families, and most importantly, improves outcomes and opportunities for students with disabilities across our state."
Selection to the District SPED Leadership Council is based on a competitive review process of applications received from special education directors or coordinators with active involvement in their school systems. The TEA referenced Solis’ demonstrated commitment to supporting students receiving special education and related services, and the expertise and perspective reflected in her application, as distinguishing factors in the selection process.

Solis joined Temple ISD in April of 2024. She previously served as the Area Special Education and 504 Director for Round Rock ISD. Solis has also served as a science teacher, a reading teacher, a diagnostician, and an extended school year principal during her career in education. She also holds a National Certification in Special Education.
Meeting dates for the District SPED Leadership Council should be announced in the coming weeks.
