TEMPLE, Texas — Nearly 300 Temple Independent School District students filled the Temple High School library on Tuesday (September 22) for the opportunity to learn about higher education opportunities.
Those students attended a college fair hosted by Temple High School and had the chance to hear directly from representatives of the 21 colleges and universities who signed up to participate in the fair. There were booths representing trade schools, community colleges, public schools, and private schools. Some of the schools represented are from Bell County, while others were scattered across Texas, with a few representing schools from outside of the state.
“Some of our students may not be able to travel to college fairs, so this is a way for us to give them exposure to a variety of schools,” said Kristi Burke, college and career advisor for Temple High School. “We hope that our students will take advantage of the opportunity to learn about some of these schools and the different types of schools that are out there.”
Students had a chance to visit with recruiters and admissions counselors about topics ranging from admission standards to financial aid. There were also chances for the THS students to learn about different aspects of the college experience.
“I have had a chance to ask questions about student life and what type of majors are offered at some of the schools,” Kayin Roberson said. “It has helped me learn about options and what the schools can do to help.”
“This is a great opportunity to have the schools come to us instead of having to travel to all of these campuses,” Jada Estes-el added.
Sebastian Guillen visited multiple college booths and said he also appreciated the opportunity to meet with college staff and have some of his questions answered without having to leave his high school campus.
“I have had a chance to learn more about scholarship opportunities and really get a feel for what some of these schools are like,” Guillen said. “It is a great opportunity, and I am thankful that the high school is providing this experience.”
The college fair is the latest in a series of events Temple High School will host this year to help students explore their postsecondary options. Temple High School had 100 percent of its students in the class of 2026 considered College, Career, or Military Ready based on the state of Texas’ CCMR requirements.
