TEMPLE, Texas — Two Temple Independent School District students have been selected to have their artwork displayed at the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and Texas Association of School Boards’ (TASB) State Convention this weekend in Houston.
This is the third consecutive year that Temple ISD has submitted artwork for consideration for display at TASA/TASB ‘s txEDCON. TISD has had two students selected for the exhibit for three straight years, and the students’ work will be on display for three days for the thousands of school board members and school administrators in attendance at the convention to see. The exhibition showcases Pre-K through 12th grade works of art from across the state of Texas and is part of the Texas Art Education Association’s (TAEA) Youth Art Month program.
Lilah Swanson’s project titled “Exhibit #026” was selected as a representative of Temple High School for the display and Sa’Riya Moore’s project titled “Through My Own Eyes” was chosen as a representative of Western Hills Elementary School.
“We are incredibly proud of these two students and their teachers for having their artwork selected for the TASA/TASB Conference Exhibition this year,” said Shirley Johnston Boquin, coordinator of Fine Arts for Temple ISD. “With the growing number of entries, TAEA used a more rigorous juried selection process this year, making this recognition an even greater honor. This also marks the third consecutive year that Temple ISD students have been represented in this exhibition – a wonderful reflection of the talent, dedication, and creativity of our students and the teachers who continue to encourage and support them. Well done!”
Swanson’s and Moore’s works were chosen by art teachers Rhonda Ramirez (Temple High School) and Meagan Foster (Western Hills Elementary) to represent the district for submission to the TAEA. Only a limited number of submissions of artwork, representing multiple school districts, were selected for display in the TAEA Student Art Advocacy Booth during the txEDCON.
Temple ISD has been honored by the TAEA with District of Distinction recognition for its visual art department. One of the requirements for that honor is to have student artwork selected for display in different exhibits across the state. The TASA/TASB display is one of those exhibits.
The txEDCON exhibition is not open to the public, but a presentation of all the artworks registered may be found of the TAEA Student Gallery Page at the following link: Texas Art Education Association - Student Gallery : Student Gallery.
