Young readers rewarded with games, activities

2/28/17

Hundreds of young readers filled the Temple High School library Friday for the third annual Bluebonnet Extravaganza.

The three-hour event rewarded students who have read at least five of this year’s Texas Bluebonnet Books with games, crafts and other activities.

While schools across the state celebrate reading books from the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List, head librarian Kathy Silvas said Temple’s Bluebonnet Extravaganza is original because it is a district-wide reading event. According to a Temple Independent School District news release, other districts have been inspired to hold their own district-wide celebrations for Bluebonnet readers after the program was the subject of a Temple ISD presentation at the 2017 Texas Library Association Conference.
