Lamar Middle School

If the 2015 Bond passes on November 3rd (Early Voting Oct. 19-30), Temple ISD will make major renovations to Lamar Middle School, finishing the master plan for the interior of school.
 
This work will include a larger, 21st Century library.  Lamar has the smallest middle school library in Temple.
 
Renovations will also take place on the cafeteria and kitchen, the stage, gymnasiums and locker rooms, and the HVAC system.  The fine arts areas will also be renovated and enlarged.
 
On the outside of the building, we will construct a secure front entrance with the goal of making major renovations to the exterior of the campus as well.
Just down the hall from the main entrance at Lamar Middle School, you encounter the library. It is the smallest middle school library in Temple, and is not large enough to meet the current needs of a middle school library.
If the 2015 Bond is approved, Lamar Middle School will receive a new, 21st Century library/mulit-media center.
On the other end of the front hall is the cafeteria. It is not large enough to meet the needs of the current student population at Lamar Middle School.
The kitchen is also too small to meet the needs of the current student population at Lamar Middle School.
Beyond the cafeteria are 60 year old hallways that have not been renovated.
Down these halls, you find the orchestra room. This room is not large enough to hold the entire orchestra.
Beyond the orchestra room are the locker rooms. The locker rooms are shared by athletics and physical education classes. They are too small to meet the current student needs, and have very small showers with lockers behind the showers. This makes it hard for coaches to make sure students are behaving properly.
On the other side of the locker rooms is the gym. The gym is too small to meet current needs, and needs repairs on the floors and stage. If the 2015 Bond passes, Temple ISD will renovate this gym and stage.
The court is worn out. It is lacking support, traction and has a number of dead spots.
The stage has not been renovated in 60 years. It is too small to meet current needs, and the floor, curtains and rigging are all in need of repairs
The curtains are 60 years old, and are torn in many places.
The band hall is too small to meet current student needs.
There is not enough room inside the building, so jazz band meets in a portable.
The portable is not large enough, doesn't have enough storage, and doesn't have the proper acoustics for jazz band.
If the 2015 Bond passes, the outside of Lamar Middle School will also receive renovations. Drivers on 3rd Street will notice the modern facade as they drive into Downtown Temple.
