Temple High School Fine Arts

If the 2015 Bond passes on November 3rd (Early Voting Oct. 19-30), Temple ISD will construct a new Fine Arts Center at Temple High School.
 
The bulk of the Fine Arts area at Temple High School was built in 1965, and has never been touched, except the auditorium renovation in the 2007 Bond.

Temple's Fine Arts programs consistently perform amongst the best in Texas, but their facilities are outdated and too small to meet current needs.

If the 2015 bond passes, students in theatre, band, choir, orchestra, dance and visual arts will have 21st century facilities to compliment their 21st century programs.
The Fine Arts area of Temple High School was mostly built in 1965 and faces west towards 31st Street and I-35. If the 2015 Bond passes, a new Fine Arts Center will not only provide modern facilities, but will also present a modern look for visitors passing through Temple.

The band hall is not big enough to accommodate the entire band. This is only freshmen and section leaders.
Band also needs more storage to preserve new instruments purchased through the 2013 TRE.
Across the hall in Orchestra is a similar situation. This room does not accommodate the entire orchestra.
Orchestra also needs more storage to properly preserve instruments, along with more private practice rooms.
Down the hall from Orchestra are the Visual Art rooms. They are crowded and there are not enough art rooms to accommodate all students.
There is not enough space in the Fine Arts area for visual arts, so one visual art classroom is upstairs in a science lab.
Two of the four art rooms at Temple High School have no have no natural light or access to outdoor working spaces.
While this looks like a storage shed, it actually houses the kiln.
If passed, the 2015 Bond will build a proper space to keep the kiln that fires at extremely high temperatures.
On the Student Center side of Fine Arts you find the Theatre space. It is not uncommon to find theatre students rehearsing in the hall.
Theatre needs more work space and storage space, especially for costumes which are kept in dressing rooms or on the stage.
Without a space of their own, color guard practices in the Student Center.
The THS Dance Team, the Kittens, also do not have a space of their own, except a director's office on the other side of the building from the rest of Fine Arts.
Without an actual dance studio, the Kittens share the outdated "small gym" with a number of other classes and groups at Temple High School.
