TEMPLE, Texas — A Temple High School senior has been recognized as one of the top four percent of students in the country by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. THS senior Genevieve Allen received a letter of commendation for her performance on the 2023 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). Allen will also be recognized at the next Temple ISD board of trustees meeting on October 15th.
The PSAT is typically taken by juniors across the country as the first step in competing for scholarships awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Each year, approximately 1.5 million students take the PSAT and only the top 50,000 are recognized by the NMSC.
“Genevieve is an exceptional student with potential to achieve great things in life,” said Dr. Jason Mayo, principal at Temple High School. “She is a leader on our campus, and I look forward to seeing her impact on society.”
Allen is a member of the varsity tennis team at Temple High School. She also serves as editor-in-chief of The Wildflower literary magazine and is the treasurer of THS’s Interact Club. Allen is an International Baccalaureate diploma candidate and is also taking advanced placement art history. She is considering multiple colleges, including the University of Texas at Austin and several universities in California. Allen would like to major in English but also plans to take pre-med courses to keep her options open.
Temple ISD is proud to offer a variety of advanced academic programs. Those offerings include a K-12 International Baccalaureate Programme, advanced placement classes beginning in sixth grade, dual credit courses with Temple College and Texas State Technical College and the Middle College program offered in partnership with the Texas Bioscience Institute.
