14 Temple Theatre Students Advance to International Competition

Fourteen Temple High School theatre students advanced in individual event contests from the state festival to the international competition.

Results were announced at the Texas State Thespian Festival on December 3, 2016. The international competition will be June 17-26, 2017, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

In addition to the individual events, Temple was one of two schools asked to perform on the convention's main stage.  All three performances of Cabaret were enthusiastically received.

Also, Ben Clardy received a best actor award for his part as Emcee in Cabaret, and Emma Tolleson received a Texas Thespian scholarship.

The convention was attended by around 7,200 people representing 246 high school Thespian troupes. The annual event moves to the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine next year.

Solo Musical: Benjamin Clardy, "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" from Les Miserables
Duet Musical: Kaiya Fowler & Nickolas Winkler, "It Takes Two" from Into the Woods
Group Musical: Rebecca Alley, Sierra Amalbert, Olivia Cabrera, Callie Ortega, Allison Quiroz,
     Emma Tolleson, Anyssa Torres, "Don't Tell Mama" from Cabaret
Monologue: Andrew Tye, King Lear
Lighting Design: Samuel Little, Cabaret
Costume Design: Grace Gomez, Cabaret
Scenic Design: Gabe Fontanez, Cabaret

Additionally, Temple High School Theatre is the current UIL 5A One-Act Play State Champion.
