Return to Learn Plan

The COVID pandemic has “normalized” as it fluctuates between the post peak and post pandemic phases.   With wide-spread vaccination efforts underway, it is critical for Temple ISD to resume normal operations and keep students and staff in the classroom.  Our data proves that in-person learning is better for our students and we cannot ignore this.

The purpose of this document is to outline operational protocols and procedures that will allow for the safety of students, staff and visitors during in-person instruction while mitigating the spread of COVID-19.  In addition, this document provides plans for continuity of services should the pandemic force the closure of a classroom, campus or district.

The low reported case counts during the 2020-23 school years validate the district’s ability to provide a safe environment through the implementation of safety protocols.  Temple ISD has continued to work with the Bell County Health District to monitor and revise protocols to adapt with ever-changing conditions surrounding the pandemic.

We have created this plan for the 2023-24 school year to provide environments where employees, students, and families feel safe while we continue to provide a high-quality educational experience for all students.  Temple ISD will implement a tiered protocol model that will allow us to respond to changes in pandemic phases.  Our protocol phases will be defined as: Standard, Enhanced and Closure.

While it is not possible to eliminate all risks of furthering the spread of COVID-19, there are many steps schools can take to reduce the risks to students, teachers, staff, and their families significantly. The district will operate under “Standard Protocol” by default and may move to a more enhanced tier based on the state of the virus.
